Description
Many important insidents in Meiji Restoration took place in Kyoto such as, Teradaya-soudou, Ikedaya-jiken, Toba-Fushimi War, and Shinsen-gumi.
Many of remains of the restoration are scattered in Shimogyo area.
In addition, many unbeknown places like temples served as a stage for famour Kyougen (Japanese traditional short comedy) or Kabuki are in the area where actors visit to make wishes for their skill to improve.
In Shimogyo area, many temples and shrines carrying down the stories of Minamoto clans (Genji) and Taira Heike). It may worth while to explore Genji and Heike country to let your heart go out to Heian-Kyo era.
